This is a fine example of cased pair of English made traveling pistols which were converted from flintlock to percussion in the mid 19th century. The brown finished barrel is marked "- -NEWCASTLE- -" on the top flat near the breech end with two "Crown/crossed saber" British proofs stamped on the left flat. The lock plate, hammer and tang are casehardened. The center of the lock plate is marked "JOHNSON". The hammer, rear of the lock plate, safety, tang and breech end of the barrel are lightly but nicely engraved. The trigger guard is blue and has also been engraved with a pineapple like engraved fininal. Ebony end tip, with a mahogany ramrod with a brass tip. The ram rod rings are silver. The grip stock is one piece smooth walnut with a round butt. The pistols are accompanied by a large walnut case which measures 18"X9-1/4" with brass mounted hardware and carrying handle in the center of the lid. The green felt lined case host a full compliment of accessories including a cleaning rod, nipple wrench, powder flask, cap tin, bullet mold and some loose balls.
