Description: Fernand Khnopff(Grembergen-lez-Termonde 1858-1921) L'aile bleue, c. 1894, signed Fernand Khnopff, platinum print, partially retouched with chalk, 26.9 x 8.5 cm, laid down on support, 33.3 x 14.3 cm and mounted on original cardboard, 50 x 32.5 cm, mounted, (PP)Literature: Robert L. Delvoy, Catherine de Croes, Gisèle Ollinger-Zinque, Fernand Khnopff, Catalogue de l'Oeuvre, Brussels 1979, pp. 285-286, repr. (a different impression). Fernand Khnopff had some of his paintings reproduced by the French photographer Alexandre (Paris 1855-1925 Nice). These reproductions - exclusively platinum prints - were then coloured by the artist, signed, and laid down on cardboard, which, at the lower left, bears the photographer's embossed stamp. They were primarily used for exhibition purposes and were presented instead of the original if the latter had been lent. A further reproduction of this motif is in the Cabinet des Estampes of the Bibliothèque Royale Albert Ier in Brussels.
