Notes: This is one of a group of similar half-length devotional panels depicting the Virgin and Child before a landscape, which derive from Raphael and probably date from the second and third decades of the 16th century. Pagnotta suggests a dating for this painting to circa 1515-18 by comparison with Bugiardini's Madonna and Child in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich (see Literature, p. 205, cat. no. 31, reproduced fig. 31).
