Live AuctionDescription: Extremely rare full size feeding Whimbrel mantel carving, Elmer Crowell, East Harwich, Massachusetts, 1st quarter 20th century. Approximately 16 1/2" long. Crowell's oval brand is in the underside. Carved primaries and fine paint detail.
Condition Report: Original paint with good patina; paint shrinkage on area of back near wing tips as well as part of the breast and neck; minor wear on bill; small cracks in jesso thighs; several paint flakes missing under tail.
Provenance: Handed down in a Central Maine family whose grandparents purchased it directly from Crowell.
