Description:
Element of the Environment- Alpenglühn, 2001
Papier-mache, plaster, gauze, paint, metal and wood on wheels. 147 x 118.5 x 90.5 cm. (57 7/8 x 46 5/8 x 35 5/8 in).
Notes: Following the in foot steps of actionism, the present lot reflects the rejection of art as a commodity. The papier-maché piece does not function like the interactive pieces that Franz West is famous for, but instead embodies a fresh form of autonomous sculpture that cannot be commoditized. The theme of autonomy breaking away from commodity conveys a meaning of "the purely visual experience of an artwork" that goes "beyond the purely optical and include tactical qualities as well." Provenance: Galerie Barbell Grasslin, Berlin
