CATALOGUE NOTE
Walton painted a very similar composition with a young cow herd rather than an angler in 1882 entitled Noon-day (Hunterian Art Gallery, Glasgow). The pictures appear to have been made by Walton during a visit with James Guthrie to Annandale farmhouse were Guthrie's mother's family lived and where Walton and Guthrie painted for a number of years.
