Double Fore Edge Painted Book
"Poems" by Alfred Tennyson; Edward Moxon and Co., London, 1860. Thirteenth edition. Green leather with gilt title and gilt coat of arms of King's College, London on cover. AEG. Sixteenmo. Presentation plate inside front cover "Presented by the Council of King's College, London to Frederick Neville as a prize for general proficiency upper fourth class, King's College School, Easter Term 1861". The two fore edge paintings each occupy 1/2 the thickness of the book - they do not overlap. The first is of a fountain in a square with dolphins at base with large buildings in the background. The second is a city view with a long bridge with a large steel superstructure. Hinges beginning to separate. Rubbed spine and spine edges. Very good condtion. From the Collection of General W.H. Vanderlinden, Jr., late of Hickory, North Carolina.
