At the Harbor Entrance. Signed and dated "D.D. Coombs 1873" l.r. Oil on canvas, depicting two square-rigged ships at center and a large merchant ship running before the wind and a frigate with its foresails backed, apparently waiting for the steam-powered tug approaching from the right, while a pilot schooner heads out to the left, and the rig of a brigantine is visible beyond the tug on the right and a lone sailor reefs the main royal sail on the merchant ship; 16 1/2 x 26 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Minor small scattered spots of retouch primarily in sky.
