DE SCOTT EVANS (American, 1847-1898) BY THE LIGHT. Unsigned oil on mahogany panel interior scene shows a finely dressed woman seated at a sewing table with oil lamp having multi-colored shade. Sewing accessories are spread throughout the table along with her fancy blue hat. She has picked a spool of thread and has unwound it and is breaking the measured thread by her teeth. Red, white and blue cloth ribbons are seen on table. Housed in a fine period gesso decorated gilt frame with outer stained wood frame and gold liner. SIZE: 24-1/2" x 17". CONDITION: Uneven masking varnish, otherwise very good. 9-92815 (6,000-8,000)
