DAVID BURLIUK (RUSSIAN 1882-1967), "Around the Samovar," 1948, watercolor on paper, 27.3 x 34.3 cm (10 3/4 x 13 1/2 in.), dedicated 'Marussia, Davy, to our dearest friends, Saida and Aube Tzerko, December 27, 1948.' lower right. PROVENANCE: Gift of David and Marussia Burliuk to Saida and Aube Tzerko; Private collection, U.S.A. Aube Tzerko, born in Canada in 1907, was an influential classical pianist. He studied with Artur Schnabel in Berlin in the 1930s, and became a widely renowned concert pianist, touring the world extensively, before accepting the post of Head of the Piano Department at UCLA until his retirement in 1992.
