BEAR CAMP I inscribed by Douglas Duncan "David Milne W626 A 'Bear Camp no. 1 'Feb, 1950" on the reverse watercolour on paper 48.2 by 66 cm. 19 by 26 in. The Milne Catalogue Raisonné notes: "The subject is Camp Makwan, originally a boys' camp, later a resort, on the west side of Lavelley Bay on Baptiste Lake. Milne travelled past the resort on all his trips to the store at Baptiste village...All together, there are seven treatments of the Bear Camp subject". This is likely the earliest version of the scene. This work is in the Milne Catalogue Raisonné as no. 502.22
