Lot 1205 | DANIEL CHESTER FRENCH (AMERICAN 1850- 1931). PLASTER BUST OF AARON FRANCIS GAY (1841- 1884).

With shellacked surface, inscribed with sitter's name and dates. Mounted on an oak base. Height of bust 27 inches. Gay was a commercial printer and stationery wholesaler in Boston; French had a studio on Mount Vernon St. at the time of the commission. There is a marble bust of Gay at Chesterwood, French's summer home and studio, now a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Stockbridge.
