4 o (200 x 145 mm). Collation: 1-4 4 5/1. PRINTED ON VELLUM, one of two copies. 2 full-page illustrations. Gold-tooled red straight-grained morocco, panelled sides with author's arms in the center, flat spine with longitudinal lettering, gilt edges. Cloth folding case. Provenance: the author (binding, inscription) -- Loxwood House library (King family), booklabel -- Arthur A. Houghton, Jr. (1906-90), bookplate.

Offprint from vol. VII (1860/61) of the Bibliographical and Historical Miscellanies of the Philobiblon Society. THE AUTHOR'S OWN COPY, ONE OF TWO ON VELLUM, the other having been presented by Curzon to Lord Elgin, who had investigated for him the survivals of the earliest printing, during his 1857 mission to China. A handsome, but unsigned binding.
