this early patent # 964 was issued to John David Browne of New York City on Oct. 5. 1838, this is a very early patent model in amazingly fine condition, made of wood with iron and brass casters - the chair retains original black leather upholstery, the chair is easily converted from a caster chair to a rocker by means of a lever on the side which swings up the rear casters, the name of the maker and the chair as well as the patent year are engraved on an ivory plate on the side of the chair
