The Madonna and Child with Saints Bartholomew and Catherine, behind a stone ledge, a walled city and a mountainous landscape beyond oil on panel 291/4 x 43 in. (74.2 x 109.2 cm.) PROVENANCE Sir Bernard Sannelson, London. Langton Douglas, London. with Kleinberger galleries, Paris. Anon. Sale, American Art Association, New York, 18 November 1932, lot 43. LITERATURE F. Heinemann, Giovanni Bellini e i belliniani, Venice, 1962, I, p. 9, no. 36e, as workshop of Bellini and 'Non Š del Rondinelli. I due Santi laterali sono forse del Bissolo.' NOTES Heinemann dates the present painting, which is based on Bellini's picture of the same subject in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow, to after 1505. Mr. Everett Fahy, in a letter dated 2 October 2000, concurs with Heinemann's assesment that the painting is not by Rondinelli although he disagrees with Heinemann's suggestion that the saints may be by Bissolo.
