L'oeuvre de Charles Cottet est à placer sous le signe d'une religiosité primitive marquée qui trouve un écho particulier dans la piété du peuple breton. L'artiste se plaît à interpénétrer le sacré et le profane dans ses oeuvres, comme ici, où ces bretonnes 'auréolées' de blanc sont traitées comme de véritables madones.

Charles Cottet's oeuvre can be interpreted through a marked primitive religiosity in which he found an echo in the piety of the Breton people. Cottet often juxtaposed the sacred and the profane, such as in the present work where Breton women are "crowned" as veritable Madonnas.
