This lot includes the group of antique photographic glass and film negative plates shown in the corresponding image. These plates come in their original boxes (labeled "Eastman's Kodoid Plates," "Eastman Dry Plates," and "The Stanley Dry Plate"). Among pictures of the turn-of-the-century Central / Upstate New York presented on these plates are images of homesteads, early automobiles, horse-drawn carriages, waterfalls, downtown squares, animals/pets, floral-decorated carts / bicycles / strollers (for parade?), elaborately furnished Victorian rooms, and boating / bathing at the beach. These plates are in excellent condition. This work of an early amateur photographer (presumably the personal collection of prosperous Carthage optometrist Frederick H. Mills - one of the glass plates shows the interior of optometrist's store) is a rare find that documents a stage in the development of photography and offers insight into life in early twentieth-century New York.
