BRITISH COLONIAL OOMERSI MAWJI INDIA SILVER TRAY@British Colonial silver tray, Oomersi Mawji, Bhuj, Gujarat, India, c. 1890, the oval tray with pierced rim elaborately decorated in a foliate motif, rising on four feet, maker's mark underneath, 12.25"l, 9.25"w, 15.88 ozt. **Note: Oomersi Mawji was a famous Indian silversmith who worked in Bhuj, Gujarat (India). He was active during British domination of India and his works may be classified as "English Colonial Silver". His work is not hallmarked (in the English way) but has a high percentage of silver. His own work is marked OM and he started to be well known around 1860. He used a special process and a brief description is given in V&A Museum website (source: internet)
