Original illustration, gouache on board, 29 7/8 x 21 3/4 inches, signed ("Bemelmans"), titled "Madeline in London / Design for stamp," and with stamp in lower right corner "Bemelmans - Madeline," depicting Madeline and Pepito on horseback, framed, offset from previous matte, stray marks.
The character Pepito is first introduced in 1956 in the second Madeline book as the Spanish Ambassador's son who lives next door to Madeline and the other little girls. He also appears in Madeline and the Gypsies (1959) and Madeline in London (1961).
