Together with: Madeline's Christmas. New York: McCall's, 1956. First edition. Color printed pamphlet; light stain on final leaf.
NOTE
The night before Christmas, Parisian style. The original illustration of the mouse that appears in Madeline's Christmas, commissioned by McCall's magazine ass an insert for their 1956 Christmas issue. The original verse that accompanies the mouse picture is written in Bemelman's hand on the verso: "Because the mouse was | in bed with a cold | like everybody else in | that house which was old." In the McCall's version, the verse was changed to read: " For like everyone else in that house which was old | the poor mouse was in bed with a miserable cold." The story was finally published in book form in 1985.
