Notes: From the library of Beerbohm. On the half-title is a manuscript note by Beerbohm identifying himself as the colorist, " . . . and by him coloured in the year of grace 1909 - ''Some dead, some living unremember''d - all Ruthlessly changed by busybody Time!'' Max." The final leaf of the preface and the table of contents contain extensive notes in Beerbohm''s hand concerning the subjects of his caricatures, often humourously commenting on their lives or deaths. The caricatures of Pinero and Shaw are entirely redrawn on the facing pages and the drawings dated by Beerbohm.
