Description:
Automobilist's Motor Blanket. An early 20th-c. travel-rug for the open-road, c. 1911, of heavy lined chenille plush fabric imitating beaver-lamb, in excellent original condition, together with a pair of leather driving gauntlets having W.D. broad-arrow marked label inscribed 'Type D - Stores-ref. 22C/767-11311, named Benson 1899574' added in blue ink. Originally supplied to Mr. Harry McLaren-Reid for his 1911 Rolls-Royce with touring coachwork by H.J. Mulliner Chassis No. 1627 (reg. no. LA 1659). This lot is accompanied by two original photographs depicting the car, one with the chauffeur holding the same blanket ready for an outing. The car was christened 'La Golondrina' - The Swallow, and is believed still extant. (3)
