Attributed to James Smetham (1821-1889) "Grave Scene in Hamlet" Extensively inscribed verso "I have his life, another book of essays, also 2 other pictures....", oil on board, 11cm by 30.5cm The son of a Wesleyan minister, he began painting portraits in Shropshire. He went to London in 1843 and studied at the Royal Academy Schools.
