Arthur Parton (NY, 1842-1914), Eventide Landscape,oil on canvas, signed lower left "Arthur Parton," pastoral landscape with small stream meandering through the meadow towards a forest and field beyond, all beneath a luminescent evening sky, housed in a very fine period Barbizon school frame. Arthur Parton studied at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts under William Trost Richards. He exhibited frequently throughout New York, including the National Academy of Design, and Philadelphia. He traveled extensively throughout the Northeast, as well as a year in Europe where he was introduced to the Barbizon painters. The American tonalists were also an influence on Parton, as evidenced in this painting. DOA 31" x 37.5"; SS 19.75" x 26" Collection of a NC Gentleman.
