Description: Arnulf Rainer (1929 Baden bei Wien- lebt und arbeitet in Wien und auf Schloss Vornbach). Schwarzes Bündel. 1968 Oil crayon and pencil. Signed, dated and titled lower right. On ultraphane foil. 31,1 x 44 cm (12,2 x 17,3 in), size of sheet. Provenienz: Private collection South Germany. In 1968 Rainer did drawings inspired by experiments with drugs and our work is one of them. The artist himself called the autistic motoric apraxia with which he compulsively banished the black bundle on to the foil 'obsessive-destructive'". As in his other work, the aspect of overpainting plays a crucial role: coloured lines that have been painted on are obliterated in an act of denial and aggression. Today Arnulf Rainer is regarded as one of the most controversial but also most important Austrian artists of the post-war years. [ME]Good overall impression. With slight mount staining. Isolated fine traces of rubbing. Corners with barely noticeable remains of old glue.
