Title: Annie Lander Album
Printing Year: 1888
Condition/Details: Bound in blue velvet covers with elaborate metal clasps, this antique volume is a unique autograph album from late nineteenth-century Cuba and includes a number of original pieces of artwork as well as several dozen inscriptions (some quite lengthy). It contains what appear to be dedications from students to their teacher and owner of the book, Annie Lander. The majority of these are written in Spanish. The first entry is dated 1888; the last bears the date 1909. A number of these were signed in Havana while others include the names of Brooklyn, Apalachin, New York, Hackettstown, New Jersey, Vermont and other American sites. The work is illustrated with a number of postcards and other cards which feature original artwork, including two displaying flags of the United States and Cuba with the dates of their respective independence days - these make a stunning pair. The artists' names include Stern, Padron, and Lararrere. The original title page bears Ms. Lander's name and the caption "1888 Isla de Cuba" (Island of Cuba) in hand-written stylized lettering. This volume is disbound and shows some external age/wear while the pages are clean, bright and feature full gilt edging. This unpaginated album measures approximately 5 1/4" x 8". Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50
