PROVENANCE:

The white columned Greek Revival structure in the center of the painting, Bluff Hall, was built by plantation owner Allen Glover, in 1832, as a wedding present for his daughter Sarah Serena Glover and her husband Francis Strother Lyon. Bluff Hall is now a historic site owned by the Marengo County Historical Society. To the left of Bluff Hall are shown the warehouses and store of Allen Glover . The side wheel steamboat , Allen Glover, to the far left, was built in 1847.

Condition: very soiled, some areas of retouch to trees, bushes, lawn near red brick house, and along left side of canvas, scattered minor abrasion with scattered paint loss, minor craquelure to right side, replaced stretcher , image reduced.
