PROVENANCE:

The white columned Greek Revival structure in the center of the painting, Bluff Hall, was built by plantation owner Allen Glover, in 1832, as a wedding present for his daughter Sarah Serena Glover and her husband Francis Strother Lyon. Bluff Hall is now a historic site owned by the Marengo County Historical Society. To the left of Bluff Hall are shown the warehouses and store of Allen Glover . The side wheel steamboat , Allen Glover, to the far left, was built in 1847.
