Description: (AMERICAN REVOLUTION.) BARBER, FRANCIS. Autograph Letter Signed, "F Barber," to his wife ("My dear Nancy"), stating that he could not visit while he was at West Point, noting that he was able to see George for a few hours, expecting to be able to visit soon, and inquiring after her situation. 1 page, folio; faint scattered foxing, folds, seal tear at bottom, holograph address panel on verso. (JMR) Verplanks Point, 17 September 1782

Notes: "The regiment yesterday returned from West Point and I was made happy . . . by receiving your affectionate letter from Capt Dayton. . . . From the nature of our business at West Point it was impossible for me to obtain leave to visit you. . . .
"Lest you should not have a speedy chance to write to me, I imagine I shall send a man home for the purpose of bringing me direct information of your situation. . . ."
