Alvan Fisher (MA, 1792-1863), George Washington, oil on canvas, purportedly signed lower left, portrait of General George Washington standing on a rise, his troops and their mounts coming up from behind, retaining four paper labels - the first indicating that the painting was from the collection of "Mrs. Charles L. Carter, Mansion House, Andover, Mass." and signed and dated "1842;" the second reading "Property of the Estate of the Late / Hiram Burlingham / New York;" and two others with ink inscriptions identifying the artist and subject; housed in a very fine period appropriate (likely original) gilt wood frame with composition ornament. SS: 29.5" x 24.5"; DOA: 38.5" x 33.5"
