Autograph letter signed, three pages, 4to, Boston, 16 April 1819, to William Collins. Torn along centerfold with the loss of several words. Faded portion on upper left-hand corner of first page. On his return to the United States from Great Britain, Allston comments on the art scene in Boston, mentioning [Gilbert] Stuart, "who certainly paints an admirable portrait". He also writes of his admiration of Wordsworth. "Perhaps it may be gratifying to Mr. Wordsworth to know that he has a great many warm admirers on this side of the Atlantic". He discusses his work and plans for forming galeries of Old Masters in the United States. C.
