(German, 1924-1966) BOTANICAL STUDY "Pina" and further botanical information inscribed by the artist in pencil on verso Folkwang-Auriga Verlag stamp on verso numerical notation and "Ernst Fuhrmann, ed." inscribed in pencil on verso vintage gelatin silver print 91/16 x 611/16 in. (23 x 17 cm) circa 1923 from the series for die welt der pflanze (The World of Plants) PROVENANCE Private Collection, new york Albert Renger-Patzsch was obsessed with capturing the essence of his subjects. Approaching them objectively, he always recorded the exact appearance of his plant specimens: substance, surface and detail. The six Renger-Patzsch photographs included in this sale were made for Die Welt der Pflanze (The World of Plants), conceived by the publisher, Ernst Fuhrmann. In 1924, Renger-Patzsch, regarding these botanical photographs, said: "[I am] forced to look, as it were, with the eyes of insects and to make their world [my] own" (Renger-Patzsch, "Das Photographieren von Blüten," DEUTSCHER CAMERA ALMANACH, vol. 15, 1924, p. 105). Please refer to Lots 26, 108, 109, 118, 119 for other examples of this artist's work.
