The Klondike gold rush ot the end of the 19th century began a coastal shipping boom in British Columbia. Seeing the potential of such a migration of men, the Canadian Pacific Railway purchased the Canadian Pacific Navigation Company and built up its line. Their ships on the Northern route became the lifeline of many isolated ports up the coast of British Columbia to the Alaska Panhandle. By the 1930s Canadian Pacific was operating cruises to the region, promoting the indigenous population and natural beauty of the land. Not in Canadian Pacific.
