The magazine's front cover is signed Gaines de Graffenried 10 inch (25.4 cm.) barrel Brown patina overall, barrel is not numbered, wedge is replaced. Rare barrel length and non-rebated cylinder. This unusual and rare type of factory work is commented on in The Book of Colt Firearms by R.L. Wilson. The revolver was acquired by Gaines de Graffenried from Judge Rice of Hamilton, Texas. The Judge had acquired it from his uncle who had served as sheriff of Bosque County, Texas in the 1890s. A stranger to the town had left the Colt with the sheriff after spending the night in jail due to public drunkeness. The presentation plaque on the Colt leads one to ponder if George Jackson was the town's drunken stranger. PROVENANCE Judge Rice LITERATURE Conger, Roger N., Texas Collector: Gaines de Graffenried, Texian Press, Waco, 1987, pages 39-40. The Gun Report, May 1982, Roger N. Conger, pages 30-1.
