Description: 10 Inch Barrel and Non-Rebated Cylinder The sighted long barrel marked -ADDRESS SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA- (vintage non-factory rear sight), naval engagement scene on factory non-rebated cylinder marked COLTS PATENT NO., three-screw shoulder stock cut frame marked COLTS/PATENT, rare factory hand-checkered loading lever, silver-plated trigger guard, iron backstrap, deluxe burl walnut grips with silver shield shaped plaque applied to left panel, inscribed To/Geo. A. Jackson/from/Dick Irwin/1870 ; together with a copy of The Gun Report, May 1982 in which an article by Roger N. Conger discusses this revolver. The magazine's front cover is signed Gaines de Graffenried 10 inch (25.4 cm.) barrel Brown patina overall, barrel is not numbered, wedge is replaced. Rare barrel length and non-rebated cylinder. This unusual and rare type of factory work is commented on in The Book of Colt Firearms by R.L. Wilson. The revolver was acquired by Gaines de Graffenried from Judge Rice of Hamilton, Texas. The Judge had acquired it from his uncle who had served as sheriff of Bosque County, Texas in the 1890s. A stranger to the town had left the Colt with the sheriff after spending the night in jail due to public drunkeness. The presentation plaque on the Colt leads one to ponder if George Jackson was the town's drunken stranger.
