Description:
A Pair of White Jade Quail-Form Boxes,
Qing Dynasty, each of an even, white jade, with detailed carving to the feathers and features, the underside of the boxes showing the quails' feet tucked in under the body, bearing two incised imperial seals to the interior: Sanxitang and Yizisun, the exterior with additional incised seal, the covers fitting perfectly to the bodies, and the boxes raised and fitted exactly on possibly later hardwood stands naturalistically carved to depict knotted roots and scrolling lingzhi fungi.
Length 3 7/8 inches.
