A PAIR OF LIFE-SIZED POLYCHROME AND GILT BRONZE FIGURAL TORCHIERES
France, Early 20th Century
Modeled as young neoclassical maidens on circular carved stone pedestals, with draped ankle-length polychrome robes and gilt arm bands, waist belt, and strap sandals; their heads bowed to the side with a demure expression as they hold aloft a reeded torch featuring three scroll form arms with palmetto brackets that support five lights, each with bobeches and each supporting bead and spear crystal pendants. Three additional arms scroll upward, each with an additional light and crystals. The whole raised on a circular stepped plinth. One of the pair Stamped: A. Durenne/Commevoire.
Condition: Minor scratches to patina and polychrome decoration. Repair to two arm tendrils. Electrified. 89 x 32 1/2 x 32 1/2 inches (226.1 x 82.6 x 82.6 cm)
