A painting by William Mulready 1786-1863 R.A. This is a fine large oil on canvas measuring 29 by 24.5". It is the portrait of a priest in a church interior setting consoling a troubled young lady. It is signed and dated and is offered fresh to the market. It has been in the same private ownership for the last 40 years. It is in fine condition. William Mulready was born in Ennis on April the First 1786 and later moved to London. His early subjects were landscapes which were influenced by Constable. He later excelled doing subject painting. In this sphere he was influenced by William John Varley due to his slow meticulous nature
