A Jean Paul Gaultier gold silk and beige wool jacket, Femmes entre-elles (Women among Women) collection, Autumn-Winter 1989-90, Femme labelled and size 42, with patchworked appliques to the shoulders, chest 92cm, 36in; together with a pair of Gaultier jeans with faces woven into the denim, Fantasies of Photography Autumn-Winter 1992-93, waist 62cm, 24in, (2) cf. 'Jean Paul Gaultier' by Colin McDowell, p.20, for a photograph of a pair of men's trousers from the same collection as the jeans. There is an identical jacket in the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and documented in the book `Breaking the Mode: Contemporary Fashion from the Permanent Collection Los Angeles County Museum' of Art by Spilker and Takeda p.63 with the following commentary: 'The decorative patterning of this jacket is a map of the complex infrastructure of a tailored garment: the large zigzag lines look like the catch-stitching that holds interfacing in place, and the jacket's design imitates the segments of interfacing used to create and maintain a garment's shape. The interior is the same jacket but 'finished' with its structural details hidden from view.'
