Notes: THE PROPERTY OF A LADY
(LOTS 120-122)

The bookcase combines Gothic and classical elements in the elegant George III fashion introduced around 1780. The commode doors' Roman medallions, the arcaded cornice and the ribboned glazing with pointed arches all feature in Messrs A. Hepplewhite & Co.'s The Cabinet-Maker and Upholster's Guide, 1788.
A related satinwood bookcase with Gothic glazed doors and panelled doors was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 10 July 2003, lot 110. It was en suite with a set of open armchairs (lot 110 in the same sale) and they were both commissioned circa 1800 for the vendor's family.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis
