Hemispherical and on slightly domed circular foot with gadrooned border and rope-twist rim, the sides finely engraved with a frieze of a wrecked ship and a manned lifeboat in a stormy sea, and with a presentation inscription within a floral and foliate scroll border, marked under foot

The inscription reads, 'Presented to Thomas Barker Esq r, Of His Majesty's Navy By the Underwriters of the City of Glasgow in Testimony of their Gratitude for his ready & great Service in Saving the Cargo of the Ship Lady Margaret, Stranded in the Firth of Clyde Anno: 1770'
