Of unusual square form, the moulded hinged square top with acanthus-carved border and ribbon-tied foliate-pierced carrying-handle enclosing a green felt-lined interior with Chinese-Export pewter tea-caddy comprising a central square caddy and a caddy to each corner, elaborately decorated with trailing foliage, peonies and other flowers on a hatched ground and within its original liner, the central caddy with Chinese character marks to the underside, the C-scroll and acanthus escutcheon set within a crossbanded panel with moulded cut-corners above an acanthus-carved plinth base and on ogee bracket feet, with Norman Adams label to the underside 71/2 in. (19 cm.) high; 63/4 in. (17 cm.) wide PROVENANCE Bought from Norman Adams, 20 May 1968. SALESROOM NOTICE The central of the five pewter liners has a marking translated as: 'Made by the Sansheng (triple prosperity) Shop'.
