  Special Auction in Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Lovis Corinth
  Fall Auctions held from November 27 to November 29, 2008
  
  In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Lovis Corinth, Villa Grisebach has dedicated a superb special catalogue to the great Berlin painter. During a year in which Corinth and his work have been honored with acclaimed exhibitions such as the one held in Paris, Villa Grisebach has also organized a singular exhibition featuring all of Corinth’s works represented in the upcoming auction at the headquarters of Villa Grisebach Auctions in Berlin (until November 19). Works of museum-like quality, in particular from the painter’s late period, with various landscapes depicting the Walchensee and picturesque watercolors on auction are: Walchensee, Mondnacht (1924) (estimate 400,000 to 600,000 EUR), Self-Portrait at Walchensee (1922) (estimate 400,000 to 600,000 EUR) as well as Gartenwicken (estimate 180,000 to 240,000 EUR) and Schlossfreiheit (estimate 150,000 to 200,000 EUR).
  
  Previews of selected works from our upcoming fall auctions are momentarily exhibited in Düsseldorf, Munich, Dortmund, Zurich, and Hamburg. There, aficionados of modern and contemporary art will certainly experience a feast for their eyes: Aside from works by Adolph von Menzel, Lesser Ury, and Paula Modersohn-Becker visitors can admire one of Max Liebermann’s popular beach scenes (estimate 500,000 to 700,000 EUR).
  
  An incunabulum of expressionist printmaking, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s extremely rare color lithograph Kokottenkopf in Federhut, is estimated with 300,000 to 350,000 EUR; only five copies printed from the work produced in 1909/10 are known. As tradition has it, at the auctions of Villa Grisebach, painters belonging to the artists group Die Brücke—this fall namely Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Pechstein, and Emil Nolde— are, of course, represented as well. A moving testimonial of artistic self-assertion during the Nazi era is Christian Schad’s large-format landscape painting entitled Hochwald (estimate 400,000 to 600,000 EUR), which also shows the influence of Caspar David Friedrich.
  
  This fall, the section featuring contemporary art makes its mark with striking works of art featuring museum-like quality, such as Georg Baselitz’s Roter Vogel from 1971/72 (estimate of 300,000 to 400,000 EUR), Günther Uecker’s Gespaltenes Feld from 1984 (estimate of 150,000 to 200,000 EUR) and the painting National Geographic (2003) (estimate of 150,000 to 200,000 EUR) by the German prodigy Eberhard Havekost. Furthermore, the catalogue “Third Floor – Estimates up to 3,000 EUR” holds various interesting discoveries, especially also for the younger collector. In addition, a separate auction is again dedicated to photography of the twentieth century (see separate Press Release).
  
  A preview exhibition of all works from the auctions is held from November 22 to November 26, 2008 at Villa Grisebach Auktionen, Fasanenstraße 73, in Berlin (Saturday through Tuesday from 10 a.m.–6:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m).   Sonderauktion Lovis Corinth zum 150. Geburtstag
  Herbstauktionen vom 27. bis 29. November
  
  In Lovis Corinths Jubiläumsjahr, in dem der Maler mit vielbeachteten Ausstellungen u. a. in Paris gewürdigt wurde, widmet die Villa Grisebach dem großen Berliner Maler einen superben Sonderkatalog. Museale Gemälde vornehmlich des Spätwerks, mit mehreren Walchensee-Landschaften und bildmäßigen Aquarellen, kommen zum Aufruf: „Walchensee, Mondnacht“, 1924 (€ 400.000 bis 600.000) „Selbstportrait am Walchensee,1922 € 400.000 bis 600.000) sowie „Gartenwicken“ (€ 180.000 bis 240.000) und „Schlossfreiheit“ (€ 150.000 bis 200.000). Alle Arbeiten sind bis zum 19. November vorab in einer Sonderausstellung in der Villa Grisebach zu besichtigen.
  Die Vorbesichtigung ausgewählter Werke der kommenden Herbstauktionen sind zur Zeit in Düsseldorf, München, Dortmund, Zürich und Hamburg zu sehen. Liebhaber der Klassischen Moderne und der Zeitgenössischen Kunst kommen auch hier wieder auf ihre Kosten. Neben Werken von Adolph von Menzel, Lesser Ury und Paula Modersohn-Becker ist Max Liebermann in einem seiner beliebten Strandbilder zu bewundern (€ 500.000 bis 700.000).
  Eine Inkunabel der expressionistischen Druckgraphik ist Ernst Ludwig Kirchners höchst seltene Farblithographie „Kokottenkopf in Federhut“. Nur fünf Abzüge sind von der 1909/10 entstandenen Arbeit bekannt, die mit EUR 300.000 bis 350.000 geschätzt ist. Darüber hinaus sind in der Auktion traditionell die Maler der Brücke, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Pechstein und Emil Nolde vertreten. Ein bewegendes Zeugnis der künstlerischen Selbstbehauptung in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus stellt Christian Schads großformatige, am Vorbild Caspar David Friedrichs geschulte Landschaft „Hochwald“ dar (€ 400.000 bis 600.000).
  Die zeitgenössische Kunst beeindruckt mit markanten, musealen Werken von Georg Baselitz („Roter Vogel“, 1971/72, € 300.000 bis 400.000), Günther Uecker („Gespaltenes Feld“, 1984,
  € 150.000 bis 200.000) und dem deutschen Jungstar Eberhard Havekost („National Geographic“, 2003, € 150.000 bis 200.000). Der Katalog „Third Floor - Schätzwerte bis 3.000 €“ hält zahlreiche interessante Entdeckungen auch für jüngere Sammler bereit. Eine eigene Auktion ist wieder der Photographie des 20. Jahrhunderts gewidmet.
