We specialise in the valuation of antiques and general furniture for probate purposes. We can assist executors quickly and efficiently at this very difficult time. We will value a single item or the complete contents of a house.
A burglary or fire brings many problems. Many people are unaware that it is the requirement of insurance law for the householder to prove the extent of the loss. The insured must submit an estimate of likely replacement cost and also provide positive evidence of its date and value. A professional valuation will establish this.
We have many years experience acting in these matters and specialise in the preparation of inventories and valuations. We will advise on the best method of disposal whether by auction, private treaty or tender. We will be pleased to advise on plant and machinery, vehicles, stocks and office furniture, and in the past have dealt with articles as diverse as race horses and vintage motor cars.
For our latest information of costs and charges, please enquire at either the Worcester office or Malvern saleroom.

JULY FINE ART & ANTIQUES SALE REPORT
Philip Serrell , the Worcestershire auctioneers, recently held a highly successful summer sale at their Malvern Saleroom.
These auctioneers over the years have specialized in selling Royal Worcester and there was a good selection on offer at this particular sale. The top price in this section was for a Pair of Royal Worcester Vases , each painted with Highland cattle in a landscape by the ever popular Stinton. This pair sold after very competitive bidding in the sum of £3,100. Watercolours painted by Worcester porcelain artists are also ever popular, in this sale there was a number of such paintings and these were lead by a Watercolour of Poppies painted by Richard Sebright which realized £2,500; and another Watercolour Still Life Study of Fruit by Richard Sebright that realized £2,000; and a third Watercolour by the same artist of a Study of Roses realized £1,700; the final example, a Still Life Study of Flowers by Sebright took a hammer bid of £1,600. Just proving how popular these works are was illustrated by a Watercolour by Charley Baldwyn of two swans on a pond; the quality of this work perhaps not considered his best, nevertheless the painting was still hotly contested and realized £900; the final watercolour by a Worcester Porcelain artist on offer was a Still Life Study of Flowers by F H Chivers which realized £800.
Amongst the furniture, the top price was paid for a Mahogany Bombe Shaped Cylinder Bureau with top over, which realized £2,400; whilst a collection of stamped furniture in the sale also sold well. A Walnut Cylinder Bureau dating from the 19 th Century, stamped Holland & Son realized £1,750; whilst a 19 th Century Walnut Breakfast Table, again by Holland & Son , realized £1,550. A Mahogany Buffet stamped by Gillows , realized £1,050; the same hammer price recorded for a Continental Rosewood Marquetry Table , whilst an Edwardian Mahogany Satinwood Display Cabinet had a hammer price of £1,150. There were a number of longcase clocks in this sale and these were lead by a Georgian Mahogany Eight Day Longcase , selling for £1,700; with an Earlier Longcase Clock realizing £1,150.
The picture section was lead by a Joseph Horlor Canvas in need of a certain amount of restoration, depicting a landscape with cattle and a young boy, which sold in the room for £1,150; whilst a Study of a Bay Horse in a Stable, attributed to T J Ewbank realized £800.
The top price of the day was a surprise for the auctioneers, and was paid for the contents of a green leather jewellery box, estimated between £400 and £600, which realized £3,400; having contained Three Enamel Pendants by the Newlyn School , which were hotly contested by a telephone bidder as well as various dealers in the room.
Two interesting items amongst the objets d'art included a large and elaborate early 20 th Century Cash Till Register which sold for £1,050; and an old Leather Bound Fireman's Helmet , together with another similar had collectors bidding to the price of £720.
The sale was conducted by Philip Serrell FRICS and Sophie Hutton MRICS BA(Hons)
