Guy Earl-Smith
Guy Earl-Smith was born in India and traveled extensively with his family in his early years, growing up in Paris and also living in Japan, England and Hong Kong.
Educated at The Kings School Canterbury, England, he began a career as a stockbroker in London. Deciding his calling was elsewhere he pursued his passion for antiquities by studying Archaeology and Anthropology at Marquette University in North America. He completed his degree and post graduate studies at James Cook University in Australia and began work as a field archeologist.
His interests in archaeology and antiquities soon led him to the International art and Antiquities market. “I found the antiquities market to be fascinating”, Guy explains,. “Valuable material culture has continuously been traded throughout time, so buying and selling antiquities is certainly not a new endeavor. To me it is exciting to facilitate the sharing of beautiful art and artefacts with public institutions, enthusiasts and collectors from around the world.”
After assisting at auctions with Sotheby’s he became Head of the Tribal and Aboriginal Art Department of Lawson Auctioneers (now Lawson Menzies). Guy established East Australian Trading Consolidated in October 2000.
“As a consultant I wanted to provide a unique, personal, boutique service for my clients; allowing me to concentrate on my areas of interest and expertise by providing my clients with a personal service that is second to none. I aim to work with my clients, looking at their long term goals in terms of acquisitions, as well as providing varied, stimulating and high net worth collections for potential buyers.”
