ABOUT US
Cuttlestones of Penkridge is the new name for the Auction Rooms at Penkridge, under the guidance of Managing Director Ben Gamble. Ben, who has worked for the auction house in its various incarnations, for over 15 years, was recently given the opportunity to become the sole proprietor of the business.
BUYERS & SELLERS
Ben’s focus is on customer service and using an increased use of technology; he aims to encourage old and new clients to the Salerooms, so they can see for themselves the benefits of buying and selling through an auction. Additionally, he wishes to dispel the common misconception that only old items can be bought at auction. The Penkridge Auction Rooms regularly sell quality modern lots of all kinds, including brand new items, which is sometimes excess stock from retailers.
Cuttlestones wish to assure sellers of a professional but friendly service, with prompt payment terms and good communication.
VALUATION SERVICES
Cuttlestones Auctioneers continue to provide a full range of valuation services for probate, insurance and family division on behalf of the county’s solicitors as well as for the general public. House clearances are undertaken to suit the clients’ requirements, ranging from the clearance of selected items, to a complete clearance, which can include the cleaning of the property if required.
GENERAL AUCTIONS - EVERY WEDNESDAY
As before, every Wednesday on market day there is a general sale in the Auction Rooms selling good quality used tools, white goods, electrical items, ceramics and the usual mix of Victorian and modern furniture. The Catalogue can be viewed every Tuesday from 2pm.
ANTIQUE AUCTIONS - EVERY TWO MONTHS
Additionally, there will be periodic Antique Sales where buyers can pick up some fantastic antique and modern furniture as well as clocks, paintings, jewellery, fine china and ceramics.
WHY THE NAME CUTTLESTONES?
For those wondering why the company name was chosen as Cuttlestones - this stems from Saxon times when UK counties were divided into Hundreds and Penkridge was at the centre of the Cuttlestone Hundred. This was one of the smallest of the Hundreds; the area it covered was only 20 miles by 12 miles. The Cuttlestone Hundred was divided into East and West Divisions and had 2 market towns. These were Rugeley and the ancient town of Penkridge. It seems appropriate to keep a local historical link.
THE TEAM
Existing customers will recognise the familiar team that work alongside Ben. For new clients, the Saleroom Manager is Stuart Insley, who together with porters John Gamble and Allen Williams, organise the saleroom for each auction. In the office are Rosie Blackburn and Victoria Barnes, who have a cheerful welcome for all visitors and ensure that the administrative engine runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
