  DUE TO THE CLOSURE OF THE ST MARK'S SALEROOM AND

  RE-DEVELOPMENT OF THE SITE, ANDREW GRANT ANNOUNCES

  ITS FINAL CLEARANCE SALE ON WEDNESDAY, 28TH SEPTEMBER 2005

   

  Rare "City of Gloucester" nameplate in 24th March 2005 sale!

  The plate has been in the possession of the present owners since it was found in the attic of a house the family purchased in Bath circa 1978. A letter relating to the find from O S Nock, dated 1979, confirms the details of it.

  

   

  The plate is from a GWR 4-4-0 City class loco number 3 437 (later changed to 3 714), built at Swindon in May 1903. Designed by G J Churchward, it was one of 10 built and includes the 'City of Truro' in its class.  The 'City of Truro' remains intact in the National railway Museum in Sheffield .  It had the No. 4 tapered boiler and was of the class that was first timed at 100mph in the UK . It was withdrawn in 1929. 

   

  The plate is expected to sell for between £15,000-£20,000 in our upcoming Transport Collectables auction on the 24th March, 2005.
