Description: DESIGNER UNKNOWN "AMERICA IS READY." 1917. 40x27 1/2 inches, 101 1/2x70 cm. The Otis Lithograph Co., Cleveland. Condition B+: restoration along vertical and horizontal folds; repaired tears in margins. This black and white, 5-reel film was released in March, 1917: after President Wilson's severing of diplomatic negotiations with Germany in February and prior to his declaration of war, in April. Very little information remains about the film itself except that it highlights America's military preparedness by depicting depicts cadets from West Point and Plattsburgh, New York, undergoing exercises and training. The image itself is colorful and dramatic enough to be an election poster, although Ironically Wilson won his second term as President in 1916, primarily on the slogan "He kept us out of war."
