Description: English school, late 18th century, oval portrait miniature on ivory of a lady in a blue gown, signed with gilt monogram 'LC', possibly the work of Mrs Alexander Pope (Mrs Wheatley, nee Clara Maria Leigh)the sitter looking slightly to sinister, with indistinct gilt monogram 'LC' to the bottom left side, mounted within a gilt metal mount with oval loop suspension and scrolling cresting decoration (glass and left hand scrolling decorative mount now lacking)A miniature artist signing her work with the monogram 'LC' is listed in Daphne Foskett's 'Miniatures, Dictionary and Guide' as possibly being Clara Maria Leigh (English, circa 1750 to 1838). Clara was the daughter of Jared Leigh, amateur artist and was the muse of the R.A. painter Francis Wheatley whom she married in 1787. Widowed in 1801 she then remarried in 1807, becoming the third wife of the Irish actor Alexander Pope. She is known to have painted miniatures, portraits and domestic and flower subjects and exhibited at the R.A between 1796 and 1838 (up until 1807 as Mrs Wheatley).The style of the dress of the unknown sitter would suggest a date sometime in the 1770's or early 1780's confirming the monogram of the painter before she took her first married name.Literature: Foskett, Daphne, 'Miniatures, Dictionary and Guide', Antique Collectors Club, 1987, p. 583, 587, 621, 675 8cm x 6.5xm (the frame mount 10cm x 8.8cm)

Condition Report: The miniature in good condition commensurate with age and the missing glass to the frame. The frame with spotting to the metalwork and with glass and one decorative scroll mount lacking.

Description: A late 19th century Franco-Chinese carved and stained wood writing desk, circa 1890,the asymmetric superstructure, formed as two bow fronted cupboards, the doors carved with flowering chrysanthemum sprays, the small left hand cupboard fitted vertical letter divisions, the right hand cupboard with horizontal letter divisions above a single drawer with flowerhead knopped handle, and flanked by small shelf, the whole united by a carved and pierced backplate formed as a scrolling kylin within flowering trees, the polished top with elongated key border, the front and sides elaborately carved, the front with shaped apron and a kylin within scrolling clouds, fitted two pairs of short drawers with flowerhead knopped handles, the sides with chrysanthemum sprays and branches, on pronounced cabriole legs densely carved with elaborate chrysanthemum blossom and foliage, on paw feet 129cm high, 100cm wide, 51cm deep

Condition Report: In fair to good condition commensurate with age, the top with wear to the dark polish to the extremities and with minor losses to the carved decoration to the superstructure, some other minor scratches and wear. The top with a wide crack requiring restoration.

Description: A pair of late 19th century Anglo or Franco-Chinese carved wood arm chairs,the upright rectangular padded backs with elaborately carved framed decorated with scrolling kylin, precious objects and bats, the cresting rails centred by stylised flaming circular pearl cartouches carved with the monograms "ER", the arms similar carved with scrolling kylin, the padded seats above shaped aprons carved with phoenix heads and scrolls, foliate carved shaped section cabriole legs, the upholstery of later date 129cm high, 66cm wide, 55cm deep

Description: A late 19th century Chinese carved hardwood and mother of pearl inlaid four panel screen,the rectangular frames inlaid with flowering prunus branches and butterflies, each inset with a cream silk panel embroidered with birds, butterflies, water-lilies, wisteria, peonies and chrysanthemums, within floriate pierced borders centred by circular key pattern medallions, the corners with repetitive flower heads, the upper and lower frieze panels inset with ovals of flowering blossom within scroll pierced and phoenix carved borders Each panel, 170cm high, 52cm wide, 2.5cm deep.

Condition Report: The frames in good condition commensurate with age and with some minor wear and scratches and a few pieces of inlaid lacking, in particularly to part of one of the roundels, the silk panels with some wear and tearing.
