Description: Autograph: John Adams - Free franked postal cover, 5 x 3.5, addressed in another hand to three men in Boston, members of a "Committee of Arrangement" and franked in the upper right corner, "Free," and signed at center left, "J. Adams" with red wax seal intact. In very good condition, with moderate toning and soiling and a heavier spot over Adams' name.

Description: Autograph: John Quincy Adams - Partly-printed DS as president, signed "J. Q. Adams," one page, 15.25 x 9.5, November 20, 1826. Adams grants 80 acres of land in Illinois to Jesse Coombs. Signed at the conclusion by Adams, and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office George Graham. Double matted and framed with a small portrait of Adams and a name plaque to an overall size of 26.75 x 16. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered toning and soiling, some light creases and wrinkles, and several blue ink spots to right side. Adams's signature is largely unaffected by the flaws. Oversized.

Description: Autograph: Chester A. Arthur - Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 18 x 14, May 9, 1883. President Arthur appoints George Gifford of Maine "Consul of the United States of America at Cognac...And I do hereby pray and request The Government of France its Governors and Offices, to permit the said George Clifford fully and peaceably to enjoy and exercise the said off ice, without giving or suffering to be given unto him any molestation or trouble ..." Archivally double matted and framed with a small portrait of Arthur and a name plaque to an overall size of 29.75 x 21.5. Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, a uniform shade of toning, and some scattered light soiling, otherwise fine condition. The white paper seal is crisp and intact. Oversized.

Description: Autograph: Chester A. Arthur - Lengthy handwritten war-dated endorsement, signed "C. A. Arthur, QM Genl," dated in pencil in another hand at the top, October 20, 1862, on a light blue 3.5 x 8 sheet, removed from a larger letter from Major Rowland. In full: "The quarters desired by Major Rowland being beyond the limits of his state, his application therein within made is respectfully referred to the Commander-in-Chief. The quarters are the same occupied by Col. Berdan & are particularly well adapted for the drill & practice of sharp shooters. I think no harm can result from allowing Major Rowland to quarter his recruits there & recommend that his request be granted." In fine condition, with a bit of trivial edge wear and toning.
