Lot 5: Luigi Loir - 'Evening, Champs Elysées'
Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data
Description: Signed"Loir Luigi" l.r. .
Condition Report: This lot was cleaned and restored by Anthony Moore Conservation LLC after the image in the catalogue was printed. An up-to-date image will be published soon online at barridoff.com and here. It will also be sent with a written report by email to anyone who has previously asked for and received a "before" image. The unnecessary pinkish gray overpaint on the clouds in the lower center part of the sky and the equally unnecessary areas of green overpaint in the sky, both from an earlier restoration, have been removed, revealing the original colors and superior handling of the clouds beneath in the lower center of the sky. The painting is structurally sound. It has been paste lined onto canvas, the original tacking edges removed, and brown paper wrapped over the edges. A patch has been adhered with BEVA to stabilize the small tear in the sky at the upper left. There is minuscule paint loss at the upper left and upper right corners. There is a minuscule area of loss in the sky at the center of the upper edge, a 2" crescent shaped scuff at the left side of the horizon line, and minor wear along the left edge from frame rubbing. The surface of the painting has a synthetic ketone varnish. The bottom (or "land" part of the image) is in good condition. There is moderate scattered thin paint in the sky that has been lightly retouched with acrylic restoration pigments. Additionally, there are minor areas of thin paint in the foreground at the lower right and in the trees at the left center of the horizon that have been retouched. The tear at the upper left, the crescent shaped scuff, and the minor losses have been filled with an acrylic resin and then inpainted with acrylic restoration resins.
