Lot 10: L10P ANTIQUE TRIPLE IRISH CHAIN QUILT C.1910-1930 86 X 72 BLUE WHITE POLKA DOTS
Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data
Description: Up for bids is a fabulous triple irish chain circa 1910 -1930 quilt. This beauty is hand-stitched and measures 86" x 72". The exquisite attention to detail is remarkable. The cotton fabric is blue with little white dots. This quilt is in great shape showing only minor wear, few stains & tears. It is a charming example of the quilts made during difficult financial times. Quilting is true recycling and true art. Groups of women often gathered to create quilts together, and the finished result was sometimes given as a gift for a special occasion (like a wedding) or as a symbol of friendship. Quilts can also document a familys history as the pieces sewn together can come from baby blankets, old clothes, etc. Antique quilts are typically categorized by style (broad classification) and pattern (of the individual blocks). Some notable styles include central motif, log cabin, circular, star, patriotic, thematic, representational, whole-cloth, charm, utility, signature, medallion, redwork, appliqué small block, applique 4-block, crazy quilts and many others. This will be a wonderful addition to Americana decor. We have other quilt in our auction this week...please take a look at our other listings. Research Consulted: The revised Catalog of American Antiques by William Ketchum
